Is it safe to walk these streets? Students sound off on crime

Students on the U of I campus are used to seeing "CRIME-ALERT" pop up in their inboxes; it's happened 36 times in a little more than 12 months, most recently on Jan. 21 of this year.

The increase in crime alert reporting combined with the increase in crime has left some students with the impression that they're living on a dangerous campus. Despite some students' fears and concerns, students continue to walk alone at night, let strangers into dorms and repeat the mantra, "It won't happen to me."
